Mauro Cerqueira (*Guimarães, 1982) presents his new installation –sculptures made up of everyday objects collected near his studio– as his first solo exhibition at the Heinrich Ehrhardt Gallery. While witnessing the gentrification and resulting displacement of the working class caused by the renovation of the historic center of Porto, Cerqueira and other neighborhood residents have been collecting historical material from the area in the wake of changes brought on by an unstoppable and elitist urban transformation. Certain areas of the city are undergoing brutal pressure due to financial speculation. By allowing the deterioration of neighborhoods, speculators seek to lower prices and more easily acquire properties that will supposedly generate the revitalization of the same areas.
