Heinrich Ehrhardt Gallery is pleased to present the fourth solo show of Secundino Hernández.

Lupis Ipsum, with its pictorial passion and defiant, groundbreaking strokes that transform smudges into shapes, opens a new seam in Secundino Hernández’s painting. This exhibition has been inspired by the paintings of the apostles by El Greco, with their dazed looks, burning spirits and alienated souls.

More than a strictly formal influence, El Greco has always been an unavoidable reference for many painters. But Secundino Hernández is not like many painters and he is not inspired in a traditional fashion. The reference should therefore be interpreted from a historic point of view; that is to say one that creates a pictorial legend, becomes an emblematic figure and leaves an unforgettable mark on the collective imagination. Throughout his career, Secundino Hernández has repeatedly been kept in suspense, reflecting on the act of painting itself. With the present allusion to El Greco, he has had both the opportunity to catch a breath of air and at the same time face a new challenge.
