To inaugurate the New Year, the Heinrich Ehrhardt Gallery presents a new exhibition of Spanish painter Secundino Hernández’s (Madrid, 1975) most recent work. With a trajectory marked by numerous prizes and scholarships that have allowed him to work in various countries, allowing him to gain outstanding international presence in places such as Rome, Vienna or Berlin, where he currently works and resides, Secundino Hernández’s paintings appear like a breath of fresh air in the contemporary Spanish art scene. With influences such as the painting of Albert Oehlen, Luis Claramunt or Luis Gordillo, the new themes, techniques and pictorial expositions of Hernández also emphasize his affinity with the first avant-garde movements led by excellent figures like Francis Picabia or Pablo Picasso.

The exhibition The Earth is Round is made up of nine large canvases that will share the space of the gallery with several drawings and collages on paper that reveal the spontaneous and simultaneously precise pulse of a visceral painting that speaks for itself, catapulted, most of the time, directly from the tubes of oil paint to occupy the surface of canvases. As if a pictorial dance, the gesture, the exquisite use of color, the composition and the hidden appearance of the fabric of canvases suggest a rhythmical painting whirlpool that overflows the physical limits of each piece of art.
