Günther Förg (Füssen, 1952) presents on this occasion – it is already the fifth solo show held at the Heinrich Ehrhardt Gallery – a series of large-format canvases and papers in mixed media from his most recent production.

He is a multifaceted, versatile artist, and an indispensable figure in German art of the last two decades. Förg has always worked in very different artistic fields; both painting and sculpture have been fields in which he has developed equally, without missing photography – which, as could be seen in the previous exhibition, Alvaro Siza-Santiago de Compostela, 2006- focuses on a substantial study of the architecture of that rational form and absent of artifices so close to the new German objectivity.

On this occasion the canvases abandon the bars worked on in previous years to become stains, points of color with expressive brushstrokes that are and reflect on the surface, that rest and intermingle when they should. In contrast to the spectacular canvases, the drawings, a mixture of techniques such as charcoal and small-format watercolors, poetic in them, close to the lines of Cy Twombly, De Kooning, others, and logically all of Förg himself.

Günther Förg currently lives and works in Colombier, Switzerland, and has been teaching since 1999 at the institution where he studied, the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. Since his first important solo show at the Kunthalle Bern, throughout his long career he has exhibited in the most varied cities, galleries and museums, highlighting the shows at the Stedeljik Museum in Amsterdam, at the Musée d`Art Modern in Paris, in all the great museums of the US West Coast and in Spain, at the IVAN and the MNCARS.
