The idea for this exhibition was born at the initiative of Heinrich Ehrhardt, director of the Heinrich Ehrhardt Gallery and curator of the exhibition, who proposes to Elba Benítez Gallery, the GOETHE institute and Conde Duque Cultural Center to share this exhibition, in order to fill a void in Madrid’s artistic offer. Until now, with the exception of specialists, the new artistic forms that have emerged since the mid-1990s in Germany in the field of painting were unknown in Spain.

Nowadays, a generation of young creators has gained international visibility. In their an artistic language they use innovative forms of painting, providing great richness and variety, not only in the way of expressing themselves, but also in the references from which they start. However, in Spain there has not been an exhibition, neither in institutional spaces nor in private galleries, that gives the Spanish public access to a whole generation inherited from the German artists that presented their work here during the nineties such as: Albert Oehlen, Martin Kippenberger , Georg Herold or Günther Förg, who have exhibited quite regularly in Spain.

The 30 artists taking part in this exhibition come from Cologne, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Dresden, Leipzig and Berlin, with roots in both eastern and western Germany. They are all part of a generation already intensely marked by electronic media, from television to video clips, internet and online communication, as well as by the lifestyle of design, fashion and music worlds.
